Supplies:
Step 1: Make the catapult
First secure a stack of 4-6 craft sticks with 2 rubber bands.
Next, add a stick to the top and bottom of the stack to make a cross-shape. Secure the two outside sticks with a rubber band.
Now attach those two outside sticks on one end with a rubber band.
Finally, glue the plastic bottle cap to non-rubber-banded end of the top craft stick. I used super glue because it's all that I had on hand, but craft glue will work just fine.
Step 2: Make the alien targets
We started by drawing some alien-shaped blobs and cutting them out before decorating. If your kiddos are a little older, they may enjoy making the alien shapes themselves. Either way, make sure the bottom of the alien is flat when cut out so that it will stand up.
After decorating the aliens, cut a stand out of cardboard. Stand should be 3-4 inches long and approximately 2 inches tall. Cut a slit in the top middle of the stand and a corresponding slit in the bottom of the alien. Attach the stand to the alien.
Now you're ready to let the pom poms fly at your alien invader targets!

]]>Supplies:
Step 1: Prepare your milk carton
First make sure your milk carton is clean and dry. You don’t want your creation smelling like sour milk in a few days!
Once it’s clean and dry, cut off the plastic spout and tape over the hole.
Step 2: Wrap milk carton in paper
Most of the wrapping is a lot like wrapping a present, it just gets a little more complicated at the pointy top.
Start with the sides, wrapping the paper around the milk carton the long way. Secure the side seam with glue or masking tape. You can use clear tape here, but use as little as possible since clear tape is difficult to decorate.
Next secure the bottom like you’re wrapping a present.
Once the sides and bottom are finished, stand the carton up and let’s tackle the top.
Cut the paper at the corners all the way down to where the paper meets the carton.
Cut two more slits at the sides where the carton comes to a point. Again only cut to about where the paper meets the carton!
Tape down the sides.
Finish off the wrapping by taping the front and back together at the tippy top. Now you have a blank house canvas ready to decorate!
Step 3: Decorate
Get creative and use whatever you have on hand. We used paint pens, but if you don’t have paint pens, no sweat. Try markers, crayons, poster paint, puff paint, glitter....

]]>Our first craft is a simple one that packs a lot of punch. It's fun to make and the completed project makes a great activity for building fine motor skills and practicing shoe tying! It's also just cute and the overall design can be applied to making a 3D birthday card. The possibilities are endless!

Supplies:
Step 1: Paint your design
We made two versions--one on brown cardboard and one on a piece of white cardboard from a USPS box. Either can work well. Whatever your base, start by painting your balloon design and then let dry.
Add details, like the knot and a white highlight to give your balloons dimension.
Step 2: Add balloon strings
This is easiest done with a large sewing needle, but you can also poke two holes per balloon and push the string through with your fingers. Either way, loop string in from the front, to the back, and then to the front again.
Step 3: Practice tying
Now you have a homemade board for little hands to practice shoe tying! Instead of balloons, you could also paint shoes or a bowl of noodles. Get creative!
